TRAINING

TRAINING

The National Training learning, approaches, structure and activities enables individuals to reflect on their personal and professional understanding on issues such as attachment, loss and grief, self esteem, trauma and models of care.

It is not envisaged that the project will train caregivers to be ‘experts’ in all of the topics covered, but that the material will give them an overall understanding of best care practice for children at risk.

Specific Aims:

  • To train national caregivers, adoptive parents and foster parents

  • To develop training material into all national languages

  • To train national trainers to deliver the modules

  • An opportunity for reflection on roles

  • Ways to re-examine beliefs, attitudes and behaviours

  • Development of knowledge and skills for caring for children

  • A forum to discuss and debate issues

  • Networking, linking and coalition building

National train the trainer intensive workshops

Using the guidance of national partners, six to eight people will be chosen to become prospective trainers. They will attend the TTT workshops and then assist in the Impact Conference which follows their training.

During the TTT workshop the trainees cover a range of topics which include:

  • Tasks, responsibilities and characteristics of a trainer

  • Styles of learning

  • Confidentiality

  • Group work

  • Training using the National Modules

Impact conference (5 days)

The Impact Conference: Understanding and Responding to God’s Vulnerable Children is lead by Janette, who is assisted by other international trainers. The prospective trainers facilitate small groups, take feedback, translate, conduct prayer and worship etc. The Impact Conferences may range from 30-150 or more participants, depending on funding etc.

Participants to the IM conferences will be selected from a wide range of backgrounds, with preference to those from Christian agencies who are providing direct support to children at risk. When appropriate, a limited number of places will be offered to government staff, volunteers from NGOs, Pastors etc.

I met Janette Pepall while serving in Guatemala and had the privilege of working with her for a few days and watching the profound healing potential of her materials for children who have experienced trauma. Her website is a wonderful resource for child caregivers who are looking for resources to meet the needs of children who are struggling with family matters or who have experienced abandonment or trauma of any kind. It also provides support for the heroes around the world who tirelessly give of themselves to be there for a child in need. Here you can order training materials from a Christian perspective to better reach and help heal the lives of the children in need in your life. Sign up for her newsletter and check out her blog and Facebook page for up-to-date information on new resources and programs and new work being done to meet the needs of children in crisis around the globe. This material can and has saved futures and lives.
