It is the season for setting up scarecrows in the rice fields of Borneo, which resulted in a nearly all female affair for the third National Training session, due to the male farmers not being able to make it. One man did attend, Hannah’s brother and driver, and reported that the lesson ‘helped him to understand himself and the children in our neighbourhood, who like to play violent games like hitting, kicking and punching, and they bully other children at school’.

I enjoyed looking at them laughing and having fun during exercises. I included two exercises (which are from the manual), (1) listening to children and (2) communicating our feelings’.‘


I asked volunteers to step forward and demo for the whole class, but they were too shy. So, I asked them to do it where they were seated.One brave girl shared how she felt as a child and as an adult. She admitted that it's difficult to listen and not interrupting (sic)’.


‘Another girl admitted that it's not that difficult to "read" someone else's feelings if only we're observant enough, and that's very important if we want to respond appropriately’.
